During the progress of the concert at the Opera House last night some person threw through a window, on the west side, a large stone, which narrowly escaped doing serious damage to a lady fitting near.

Aboflt three o'clock yesterday morning two cottages in London street. Woolston, were totally destroyed by fire. One, containing three rooms, Vas occupie. by Patrick Smith and his wile, and the other, containing four rooms, vas unoccupied. Father Le Menant do Che3nais, V.U., presided, and Father Marnane, parish priest of .St. Mary's, and a number of the' clergy were also present. A good programme of music was given by the pupils, and the drama "Health and Wisdom" was played by several of the young ladies. The prize distribution in connection with St. Mary's li.uish school will take place this afternoon.

At the Merivale Chuu-li Bazaar on Wednesday evening, a string kit, containing articles of dress belonging to one of the lady stall-holders, who was drc-a.sed in fancy costume, was stolen from the cloak room. The Durham street entrance- door was occasionally left unfastened during the evening, and it is supposed that the thief thus obtained access to the room. As this is not the first time robberies- have taken place from this building, it is desirable that a lock should be fixed on the door, so that people could not ii"..-.-i in and out when the Armagh street entrance is the only one that is supposed to be opened.

The Southbridge Town Board met on Wednesday. Present—Messrs R. Webster (chairman), J. R. Campbell, W. FL Smith, R. P. Hill. J. Malcolmson, J. Cowan, and C. H. Willis. Dr. T. J. Withers wrote complaining of the bad state of the roads. It was decided to put two men to work on the roads. It was decided that all rates outstanding after the 22nd inst. should be sued for. Messrs Gimpbell, Cowan, and Willis were appointed a Finance Committee.
