A has the first lead. Zis the dealer. The leader's card in each triok is indicated by an under line.] The Play. Trick I.
Remark (Trick B).—Z.'s play is the converse of unlocking the -suit. Although he has more cards in his suit than his partner (five originally to his partner's four), he proceeds to thro w a high card so as to be able to leave the lead with Y. With two trumps still left with which he can regain the lead it is not necessary for Z. to retain the lead in the club suit. _. Trick IX.
Remark (Trick 10).— Z. pats the lead into hia partners hand so as to give him a chance of leading the knave of hearts if he holds it. From the filay it Trick 1 it seems likely that Y. holds the king of diamonds and A. the ace, in which case to win the game Z. must get a change of discarding his four of diamonds.
Trick 13.— Z. leads the last clab. "~ Tli. win five by carde. Game. The Hakos. A. B. At tricks 5 and 6, B. plays false cards. This is quite legitimate, the only objection being that they fail to deceive. With his holding, it happens that <Z. can tell the queen of spades is a false card, since Y. having the knave, ten, and nine, would have played one of them second hand on the first round; in any case he would have suspected it.
At tricks 4 and 9, B.s play in leading hearts is unfortunate. At trick 9it is his object to win a trick before Z. has a chance of discarding, and the queen of hearts is a more probable trick than the problematical ace of diamonds.
