CHILDREN'S AID SOCIETY.
The fortnightly meeting of the Committee of the Children's Aid Society was held on Thursday evening in the "City Council Uhambers. Present—Miss Ross (assistant secretary), Mesdames Wells, Bendelev, li'.ack, Lees, Blake, Henderson (hon. secretary), Sister Marion, and Miss Henderson, and Messrs W. Chrystall. E. O'Connor, J. OBryen Hoaro, H. G. Ell, J. Blank, and the Rev. A. C. Hoggins. Mr Ell occupied tne chair. A letter was read from Inspector JKroham in reference to some cases of jigging on the part of children which had been reported to him, and also the Secretary s reply thereto, which contained an urgent appeal for action to be taken, especially with regard to one\ case. As no answer had been received to this letter, it was agreed that Inspector Broham should be asked to reply before other steps ..were taken in the matter. Miss Ross reported that there was great need of clothing for attribution It was agreed that a nominal charge should be made for clothing. It was suggested that the schools be asked to save books for the use of children who are unable to buy books for themselves. The Kindergarten Sub-committee reported that a suitable cottage for a school had been round in Sydenham, and the Committee was empowered to secure the cottage and to engage a teacher forthwith ; also to procure, with the assistance of Mr Chrystall, appliances and furniture for the school, either by loan or purchase. It was agreed that the entertainment to be given by children in aid of the Society's work should be held >n the Choral Hail on October 13th.
