The Penguin arrived from Wellington yesterday "morning, and sailed for Wellington last night. After the Takapuna stuck on the mudbank in the Manukau channel three unsuccessful attempts were made on Saturday and Sunday to shift the Union steamer. A further effort was made on Monday night, and the steamer was moved from her position, but she again took the bank and stuck fast. On Tuesday the red funnel liner was floated off.

While the quarantine exists at Tonga the Union Company's steamers from Sydney for Auckland via the Islands:will not call at ports in the Friendly Islands, but will proceed from Sydney to Fiji, thence to Samoa, returning to Fiji, and then going on to Auckland. Vessels leaving Auckland will, however, call at Tonga as usual. i While going in on the flood tide on MondayT night the auxiliary trawler Savaii ran into the cattle wharf at Napier, and did considerable damage,'smashing her bowsprit and figurehead, besides carrying away part of the wharf.
