AN OPPOSITION DINNER.
The dinner given by Mr Duthie to tiie members of the Opposition last evening was a brilliant success. The dinner was in itself excellent, the decorations most artistic, and the speeches amusing and stirring. The speakers were the Hon. Captain Russell, Hon. W. Rolleston, Hon. J. Bryce, Hon. R. Oliver, Messrs Scobie Mackenzie and Geo. Hutchison, Colonel Pearce (Wellington), and Mr J. G. W. Aitken (Wellington), who has always been chairman of Mr Duthie's election committees. Captain Russell was in his best form, and tllie Opposition and other guests to a man rose at the conclusion of his speech and cheered enthusiastically. All the other speakers also acquitted themselves well, and Mr Bryce in particular, whose effort was'the'speech Of the evening, made a particularly stirring appeal in the interests of honest administration and the good work the Opposition were carrying on. Coming after the decisive victory of the Opposition .in Parliament last week, the function was all the more successful.
