PROTECTING NEXT DAY'S DINNER.
Having had his meat safe robbed frequently, a Masterton resident thought it advisable to have the door of his- safe connected with an alarm bell, so that he could interview any uninvited guest who might be helping himself at any time after the household had retired ,to rest. A few mornings ago, at a quarter to one, the safealarm bell duly and vigorously notified that something unusual was happening. The qwmler was up in an- instant, but as he came into view of the meat safe, a resolutelooking individual was standing ready to welcome him with an uplifted stick. He hesitated a moment, but a neighbour coming along at a run, seized the intruder, and took him by main force as far as the Masterton police station.
