GRAIN AND PRODUCE MARKETS.
(BY OUR COMMERCIAL EDITOR,) Friday Evening. The -wheat market is still in a very quiet state, and very little movement to note. One miller states that he has bought a line of mixed milling wheat at 3s 6d, ex store Christchurch. There is, however, but very little demand on the part of millers, whose business in flour is confined to restricted local and coastwise requirements. It is reported that Victorian wheat has been landed at Dunedin at a cost of 3s B_d at the wharf, duty paid, which is equivalent to about 3s f.o.b. Melbourne. More is also expected from the same quarter. There is a steady business doing in oats, a fair enquiry being manifested for Canadians and sparrowbills, and to a lesser extent for Tartars, for seed purposes. There is still a demand for oatsheaf chaff for export, but the prices offered, 57s 6d to 60s at country stations, do not lead to much business being done, as growers are asking 65s to 70s, There is a fair turnover taking place in ryegrass and clover seeds, and rape is also in demand for summer feed for lambs. The potato market is easier, as export buyers have purchased sufficient for present requirements, and there will be no shipping space available for a fortnight.
