AKAROA COUNTY COUNCIL.

A meeting of this Council was held on Saturday. Present — Messrs Lelievre, Piper, J. Buchanan, E. Scott, G. Maeon and J. Pettigrew.*' Apologies for absence were/received from the chairman and Mr Roberts. Mr £. E. Lelievre was voted to the chair. The treasurer reported that the sum of £62 had been collected since last meeting. The balance to debit of the county fund was £240 5s sd. The Gore County Council sent resolutions objecting to the Local Government Voting Reform Bill and the Municipal Reform Bill. It was unanimously decided —"That this Council strongly objects to tho clause in the Local Government Reform Bill which confers an equal voting power on all ratepayers, more especially on the question of voting for loans, irrespective of their rate contributions." It was decided to call a public meeting for an expression of opinion on the Local Government Bills. Mr Jas. Hay wrote, thanking the Council and rate-. payers for illuminated address presented to him on his departure from the district.'
