The first public concert given by the Christchurch Liedertafel will lake place tonight at the Choral Hall. The appeal is made for the library fund of the organisation, and it is to be hoped there will be a large audience on the occasion:. The programme is an excellent one, and promises a very pleasant and enjoyable evening to those present. The social in connection with the Fire Brigade will take place this evening, when his Worship the Mayor will present several bars and association medals. As will be seen by a notification elsewhere the International Fine Art Publishing Company have abandoned the art union projected, and announce that they will return the money subscribed. The annual meeting of the Avon Rowing Club will be held on Wednesday next, at 8 p.m. at the boatshed. The PaDaoni choir will sing Fisk Jubilee songs to-night at Trinity Hall, and readings will also be given from " Uncle Tom's Cabin." In connection with the Sons and Daughters of Temperance, Progress Division, Kaiapoi, the annual competition for prizes for recitations, songs, piano and other musical selections, is being arranged for, to take place at an early date. The special meeting of the Grand Lodge, U.A.O. Druids, will take place in the Druids' Hall, Worcester street, to-day. The session, which will be attended by delegates from various parts, will be followed by a social in Hobbs's Buildings, to which the visiting delegates will be invited. The Superintendent of the Lyttelton Sailors' Home acknowledges, with thanks, the receipt of the following donations: — A parcel, containing twenty numbers of the "Pall Mall" magazine, from Mr F. Waymouth, St. Albans; illustrated Home papers from a friend, Christchurch; magazine! from Mr W. G. Brittan, Christchurch;

Home papers from the Second Officer of the s.s. Rakaia; "Tit Bits" from Mrs Arnold, sen., Dampier's Bay ; "Illustrated London News" and othei Home papers from Mrs Pvkett, Harper street, Sydenham.
