FOOTBALL.
On Thursday afternoon, a football tournament was held at Teniuka, under the auspices of the South Canterbury Rugby Union, when the gold and silver contests were won by the representatives from the Waihi Club. The results of the different matches were as follows :—Gold medals— Waihi beat Geraldine by 5 points to nothing, Colonials beat Temuka by 3 points to nothing, Ashburton had a bye. In the semi-hnal, Waihi beat Ashburton by 3 points to nothing, and in the final the same Club defeated the Colonials by 3 points to nothing also. Silver medals — Colonials beat Geraldine by 3 points to nothing, Waihi beat Temuka by 3 points to nothing, and Ashburton had a bye, Merivale not competing. Id the semi-final, Waihi beat Ashburton by 1 point to nothing, and in the final the same Club was successful against the Colonials by 8 points to nothing. To-day will see the last of the trial matches before the Canterbury Representative Football Team is picked to play South Canterbury on Thursday, and to go North on Saturday. The trial takes place at Lancaster Park, at 3 p.m.
