The opening sales of the new season's teas were satisfactory both as regards the volume of business and the prices. The importers for the first time for some years obtained covering rates. There was a strong demand for better classes, both locally and for export. Received July 21st, 10 a.m. London, July 20. The total quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 2,470,000 quarters, and for the Continent 950,000 quarters. The American visible supply of wheat is 18,682,000 bushels. Tallow—The prices for all sorts are unchanged. National Bank of New Zealand shares, 4.2 ss; Bank of New Zealand 4 per cent, guaranteed stock, 103 ; New Zealand Loan and Mercantile 4 per cent, prior lien debentures, 90. Eeceived July 21st, 7.55 p.m. Sydney, July 21. Potatoes yesterday were from £8 to £8 10s (not £10 as cabled yesterday). New Zealand potatoes to-day are firm at £8, with an improving tendency. The New Zealand Loan and Mer-. oantile Agency Company, Limited' have received the following London cable message; dated July 20th:—

" Tallow —There is a fair demand except for fine qualities, which are not in demand. Medium and inferior mutton tallow has advanced 3d per cwt. since last report." (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAMS.) WELLINGTON, July 21. The Department of Agriculture has .received the following cable message from the Agent-General:—" Hemp market.very dull; no demand." NAPIER, July 21. Messrs Nelson Brothers, Ltd, Tomoana, received this afternoon the following cablegram from the C.C. and D. Company, London:— " Frozen meat market—To-day's quotations are :—Beat Canterbury mutton 3|d, best Dunedin and Southland 3_,d, best Napier and North Island 2£d. Lamb— First quality 4£d, second ditto 4£d."
