THE INVERCARGILL INCIDENT.

INVERCARGILL, June 15. Wilson Hall, a well-known landowner al Riversdale, was charged at the polioe court to-day with using indecent language, with offensive behaviour in a public, place, and with boarding a train while it waa m motion. The facts were that on the departure of the Governor on Saturday, Hall jumped on the carriage next to that occupied by his Excellency, and as the crowd on the platform were cheering, made use of the language complained of. Accused admitted all the charges. His counsel said that some time ago he was thrown from his horse on his head, and when he took a drink he was not responsible for his actions. The accused had Bince telegraphed apologising to the Governor, who replied accepting it, and stating that, so far as he personally was concerned, he desired that the accused be dealt with leniently. The first charge was withdrawn, the Mayor of Invercargili stating that he did not think the citizens would desire that the accused should be imprisoned. On the second information he was fined £10 with costs, and on the third £5 and costs, in all £18 lis.
