NOTES AND MEMORANDA.

The Pioneer Bicycle Club's annual road race from Riccarton Hotel to the Wheat- v sheaf Hotel and back starts at 2.30 p.m. today. The handicaps are as follows: —D. S. Bowman, J. W. Jones, W. J. S. Hayward, scr; T. H. North, lmin; P. Wynn-Williams, l£min; N. Line, 3£min; W. E. Symes, E. P. Staines, 4min; C. Burmeister, G. Glover, 4£min; T. H. Oates, E. E. Pepperill, smin. D. S. Bowman has been called t>y telegram to Timaru and will, therefore, be unable to start.

The usual weekly social concert of the Canterbury Caledonian Society took place last night in the rooms, when an excellent programme was gone through under the management of Messrs Malcolmson and Sey. The annual show ,of the Christchurch Poultry, Pigeon and Canary Club will open at Mr Tabart's wool store at 2 p.m. to-day. The display of poultry, pigeons, and canaries is the finest collection ever staged in Christchurch. In addition to these exhibits, which are an interesting collection in themselves, there will be a display of cats, children's pets, and an exhibition of home-made scones and cakes. The show will remain open from 2 p.m. on Thursday to 10 p.m. on Saturday. The half-yearly convention of the Canterbury Christian Endeavour Union will be held to-day in Trinity Congregational Church. The afternoon session wID. commence at 2.45, when an address will be given by Rev. T. W. Newbold, and an open Parliament held on " The Difficulties ot the Christian Endeavour Movement." The public meeting will commence at 7.30, when addresses will be given by Revs. Dr. Erwin, and J. J. Doke. .

A concert, for which an excellent programme has been arranged, will be given this evening in the Hall of the V.M.C.A., under the direction of Mr Macleod Smith. The proceeds will be devoted towards the funds of the institution.

The sale of "Lot 49" takes place to-night in the Fendalton schoolroom, at eight o'clock. The proceeds will be devoted to the Sunday School building fund, and the sale will be preceded by a concert. As will be seen by a notification elsewhere the "Premier Tourist and Commercial Guide" will be published about the end of the present year. Mr Evans, the representative, is now at Burkes Hotel, Manchester street. The members of the Canterbury Bowling Club will meet on theGreen to-day, at 2.30 p.m., to consider improvements. The Canterbury College Students' Association will give the play of." Acis and Galatea," and a concert at St. Michael's schoolroom on Thursday, June 23rd, in aid of the inter' Varsity football match.
