Monday, June 13. [Before A. Scott and J. Richardson, Esqs., J.P.'s.] Drunkenness. —Two first offenders were each fined 5a and costs. Assault.—Joseph Broame was charged with having, on Jane 12th, at Sydenham, assaulted Thomas Martin so as to cause him bodily harm. Mr Beattie appeared for the accused, who pleaded not guilty. Accused was fined £2, ordered to the doctor's fee of Sa, and bound over in one surety of £20 to keep the peace for six months. (Before R. Beetham, Esq., S.M.) Civn. Cases.—Berry v Stevens, claim £3 9s Id for meat supplied. Mr Hunt appeared for the plaintiff. The defendant pleaded that under a deed of separation he was not responsible for his wife's debts. The deed (produced) did not bear this out, and judgment was given for plaintiff for the amount claimed, with costs. Judgments went for plaintiffs by default, •with costs, in Murray v Davey, £3 13s; McClea v Somerville, £56 16; Sydenham Borough Council v Logan,
£5 17s 2d; same v Woodhouse, £2 9e sd; samo v Johnston, £4 13g 4d; Preece v Robinson, £3; Moir and Co. v Waterhouse, £47 12s ; Neave v McConnell, £6 Is 7d ; Anderson v Rainbow, £8 12a; Hulbert v Francis, 11s 3d ; and Burgess v Campbell, £2 19s 6d. Hnig v Price, claim £2 19s, on judgment summons. Mr Hunt appeared for the creditor. Tlio ability of the debtor to pay was not proved and no order w»3 made.
