As will be seen by a notification elsewhere, the polling for the irrigation loan for the Rangitata district will take place on Wednesday next, and that for tho Ruapuna district on Friday. The ordinary meetings of the Sydenham and Linwood Borough Councils take place this evening. Tho Directors of the Midland Saleyards Company have decided that the next -sale shall take place on the 21st inst. The meet of the Brackenfield Hounds on Saturday next will be atSpringbank and not at Mandeville. A public mecling in connection with the W.C.T.U. will be held in the coffee room, Gloucester street, to-morrow evening, in aid of funds for promoting temperanoe amongst the Maori women in the North Island. Addresses will be delivered by Canon Stack and Mr Kohcre, and there will als-j be a musical programme. The drawing for reserved seats in connection with the second subscription concert of the Musical Union will take place on Monday next at Milner and Thompson's, when subscribers are invited to be present. Extra tickets can be obtained at the booking office and must be lodged before that date. Subscribers who may have a preference for seats in the stalls are requested to advise the hon. secretary. Under the new system of drawing, the reserved seats are limited, and only a few more new subscribers can be accepted. Terms of subscription will be found in another column. The concert is to be given on Thursday, 30th inst., when an orchestral programme will be produced. Mrs Howie and Mr G. March will be the vocalists. As a ireans of providing funds for establishing the Garrison Band, Professor Mathew has consented to give one of his popular lectures. The subject will be •' Waterloo," and the lecture takes place on the anniversary of that memorable battle. The address which the Professor gave on "Trafalgar" was acknowledged to be a treat, and those who heard it are not likely to miss hearing the one on •' Waterloo."
