Auckland, June 6.
Over 2000 persons were present at the Rugby Union contests at Epsom on Saturday. "Newton met Ponsonby in front of the grand stand, the former winning by 8 points to 3. Newton have not met with a defeat this season. Mynott and Freeman scored tries for the winners, and Eaton converted one. For Ponsonby, Landram scored a try.
On No. 2 ground Parnell defeated Grafton by 9 points to 3. Laws and Sampson scored tries for Parnell, and Murray kicked a penalty goal. For Grafton, Smith kicked a pcnaltv goμl. The* secretary of the Suburbs Club (Mr J. Leahy), understanding that North Shore was desirous of postponing the match between those clubs, through the medium of the Press, informed the Suburbs' players that the contest would not eventuate, and several of them did not put in an appearance. North Shore, on the other hand, denied that there was any desire on their part to postpone, and the team accordingly put in an appearance at Potter's paddock, and claimed the match by default.
