MELBOURNE, June 10.

The steamer Star of Victoria, which arrived yesterday, was bringing out Messrs Gibson Brothers' well-known steeplechaser Daimio. During heavy -weather, his box was smashed, and the horse so badly injured that he had to be shot.

The Programme Committee of the Canterbury Jockey Club met on Thursday and decided upon the bill-of-fare for the season of 1898-9. The dates fixed for the spring meeting are November 7th, 9th and 12th, for the midsummer meeting February 23rd and 25th, and for the Easter meeting April 3rd and 4th.
