NEW ZEALAND PRODUCE.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sm—ln your issue of the stli instant there appears a letter signed "Equity, re iiarmara and produce! merchante. Kindly allow mc, as an old supporter of your journal, a short reply. The facts are as follows:—The potatoes in question were under offer for one week, and should the vendor receive no bona fide offer by that time he, was at liberty to choose his own purchaser, or hold as he thought fit. As admitted by "Equity," no deposit was made on the socalled sale, so there was no binding contract. Should our produce merchants resort to such means as seem to have been in the case undei* notice it will be almost necessary for them to dispose of their produce through their legal advisers, which will mean a coat to the seller, and a higher price paid by the purchaser. The colonial '\Robert," alias the Is, will in future Have to be resorted to if our poor farmers are to be put to the expense, delay. &c, of resorting to law, and unnecessarily taking up the time of our already overworked S.M., who must be a descendant of .Job. —Yours, &c, "Murphy."
