Thougli the weather wa3 dull it kept fine for the abave meeting, held at Rangiora yesterday. The attendance waa hardly equal to that at last year's gathering, but the totalisator turnover, which reached i"1782, was £100 more than at the preceding meeting. The racing was of an interesting character. Seabrook, who made a poor show in tlie opening race, came out and won the chief event very easily. The stewards held an inquiry into the running of the horse, accepting the owner's assurance that the hor*e had been sent to win on each occasion. Ciie i-ystone cut out the work from Female Franchise, the pair drawing clear of the others in the first two furlongs. At the top turn Seabrook, who was last at the stand ran into third place, Female Franchise at the same time supplanting Cherrystone in the lead. Female Franchise came away in the straight, and though Cherrystone chew out with a challenge the favourite won very easily by three parts of a length • a bad third. Time, lmin 33sec. Passim* the stand Seabrook, Annoyance and Skirmisher were in line just in front of Social Pest and Epaulet, with Haria last. As they entered the back Epaulet joined Seabrook, the two going on in advance of Social Pest and Skirmisher. The latter went on second to Seabrook at the top turn, but the light weight was some three lengths to the good. Skirmisher closed up as they ran for the straight, but Seabrook, always going easily, won by a length and a quarter, Epaulet, who came fast in the stra _ht, just beating Social Pest for third place, three parts of a length from Skirmisher. Prospect drew out from the start, but at the end of a furlong was joined by Beggarman, the two going down the back on terms, attended by Golden Legend and Epaulet, Marino next. Rounding the top turn Beggarman was in command from Golden Legend, but Marino coming up fast on the outside was close behind Beggarman at the home turn. The latter was headed by Marino at the distance, but Epaulet coming fast got up in the last stride, and gained the verdict by a nose, Marino a length a half in advance of Beggarman, Golden Legend fourth.
