LAWN TENNIS.
A match was played on Saturday afternoon between Sydenham and Canterbury College at the courts of the latter club. The College eventually won by 20 games, the scores being College 88, Sydenham 68 games. The various matches resulted as under:— Ladies'Singles-Mise A. Baldwin (S.) beat Miss Howard (C.C.), 9—7. Men's Singles— 'MeWilliam (C.C.) beat Seay (S.), 9—5 ; Rudd (S.) beat Flower (CO.), 9—4; Lingard (C.C.) beat Lyttelton (S.), 9—5; Stuckey (C. C.) beat Hall (S.), 9—6. Ladies' Doubles Miss Howard aud Miss Aitken (C.C.) beat Miss Baldwin and Miss Gowing (S.), 6—3. Men's Doubles—Seay and Lyttelton (S.) beat Mc William and Lingard (C.C.) 9—B; Inglis and Stuckey (C.C.) beat Hall and Gee (S.), 9—4; Flower and Kohere (C.C), beat Rudd and Rowe (S.), 9—3. Combined Doubles—Seay and Miss Baldwin (S.) beat Mo William and Miss Aitken (C.C), 6—5; Lingard and Miss Howard (C.C.) beat Lyttelton and Miss Gowing (S.), 6—2 ; Row and Miss Gee (S.) beat Kohere and Miss Scott (C.C), 6—2; Flower and Miss Hardcastle (C.C) beat Gee and Miss Munday (S.), 6—l. At a meeting of the Committee of the newly-formed Avonside Tennie Club at Mr Brice's rooms, there were present—Messrs A. Marshall (president, in the chair), F. Banks, J. Parker, W. Brice, Ken Bassett, andF. J. Murray (hon. secretary). An apology was received from Mr F. Nicholson. The Secretary reported having made all necessary arrangements with the trustees for procuring the section at Avonside, and it was decided to call a special general meeting for Wednesday the 27th inst. The question of rules was discussed and a set of rules was drafted from the Linwood and Canterbury Clubs' rules to be approved at the general meeting. The Secretary reported having received over 100 applications for membership.
