AMATEUR ATHLETIC CLUB.

The Committee of the Canterbury Amateilr Athletic Club met lost night at the City Hotel. Present—Dr. Jennings (in the chair), Dr. Thomas, Messrs J. U. Collins, K. Bassett, F. W. Johnston, L. W. Harley, H. S. Batchelor, C. F. Smith and D. Hoare. Apologies were received from Messrs A. H. Anderson and H. R. Homan. A motion of sympathy with Mr ¥. S. Harley, who is suffering from typhoid fever, was adopted. Messrs A. -W. Wade, J. G. Gow and T. F. Gibson resigned from the committee. Five new members were eleoted, A letter was read from the Hon. Charles Hill Trevor, stating that his Excellency the Governor would extend his patronage to the Club.. The Secretary announced .that the following had promised special prizes for the autumn meeting:—Messrs A. E. G. Rhodes, W. Recce, Jones and Son, Aiiglo-New Zea: land Cycle Company, Dunlop Pneumatic Tyre Company, J. Thornton and D. Thomas. Colonel Gordon wrote giving permission to the club to place two military, events on its programme for the autumn meeting on April 16th. In view of several alterations having been suggested by volunteer officers the matter was referred to the Garrison Library. The letter from the New Zealand League of Wheelmen suggesting that the club, should put League races on the programme for the autumn meeting was considered. The Secretary read a letter from the New Zealand A. A. A. refusing the club permission to place these races on the programme. Mr. Batchelor. pointed out that the Alliance had since disqualified every member of the League, so that no League wheelman could race at the sports. It was decided to reply to the League that the request could not be granted. The Secretary reported that the club had £22 in the bank, but there were fifty subscriptions outstanding, of which ten were bad.
