CHARITABLE AID ESTIMATES.
The Charitable Aid Board went very carefnlly yesterday into the estimates for the year 1898-9, decided upon the amounts to be expended, and the sums as receipts upon which reliance could be placed. The departmental expenditure was passed as follows:—Ashbnrton Home £1300, Female Refuge £380, Lyttelfcon Orphanage £750, Memorial Home £1800, Armagh street Depot £200, outdoor relief £7700, boarded out cases (other than orphanage) £900, industrial schools. £900, general expenses £900, contingencies (to include members , travelling and legal expenses) £500; estimated requirements £15,330. The estimated receipts amounted to—Contributions outstanding Ist March £1068, Government subsidy £2086, Bank £559, Twigger income £546; total £4259.. From this amount had to be deducted—Accounts to 31st March £1900, industrial schools £170, Ashburton Home contracts £50, do future building account £183, proposed new building Armagh street £650; total £2953. leaving an available balance of £1306. This would be augmented by income from endowments £368, estimated income from other services £100, total £1774. This amount, deducted from the gross expenditure, left as the net estimated requirements the sum of £13,556, half of which (£6778) is collected from the contributing bodies and half provided by the Government.
