Brkach of the Stock Act. — Eli Mitchell was charged with having within the space of six months removed more than the one-quarter of the ear of one lamb, contrary to the provisions of the Stock Act. Mr J. W. White appeared for the prosecution, Mr Raymond for the defence. Evidence was given by the Stock Inspector (G. H. Jenkinson), Detective Livingstone, Constable Barrett, and Messrs V. P. McCallum, Jas. Marshall and D. Shaw. Mr Raymond asked for a mitigated penalty. His client wai not the owner of the sheep mutilated at the time. It was the property of his late father, and he was debarred from giving evidence as he mis-lit prejudice himself in connection with another case. His Worship took the circumstances into consideration and inflicted a fine of 425, with costs 755, including solicitor's fee. Civil Cases. —Judgment for plaintiff** by default was given in the following cases : — J. Angland v J. Collins (Cheviot), claim £5 53 6d, judgment for £4 17s 6d ; U. Taylor v Geo. White, claim £2 13s 3d; same v Geo. Meredith, claim £9 17s lid. Mr Aspinall appeared for plaintiff in the last two cases.

Wages Claims. —Jas. Hoopsr v Johnson and Hughes, claim £3 lis ; Chas. Hooper v same, claim £5 4s lid; Goo. Blis«ett v same, £3 lis ; Thos. Hooper v same, claim £5 4s lid. Mr Raymond for'plaintiffs and Mr Aspinall for defendants. The defendants paid into Court, in settlement of all claims, the sum of £12 2s 9d, and pleaded that through the men leaving their employ at a threshing mill they had incurred loss amounting to £4 16s lid. Judgment was given for Jas. Hooper £2 4s 9d, for G. Blissett £2 8s 7d, for Charles Hooper £4 9s 6d, and for Thomas Hooper £3 19s lOd. In the cases of James and Thomas Hooper small set-offs were admitted.
