CITY GUARDS ANInUAL MEETING,
The nnrniol meeting of the City Guards was held in the orderly room last night, when there was an attendance of forty-five. Captain Cresswell occupied the chair. The balance-sheet showed :—Receipts £198 7a 3d, expenditure £160 2s 3d. Cash balance £70 J2s sd, including £32 7s 5d brought ■forward, balance of assets over liabilities £491 lis 4d. The balance-sheet was adopted. Tho report of the Library\Conijnittee showed that thirty-six members had taken advantage of the library. The report oi the Shooting Committee congratulated the corps on a successful year's work. In iuter-cotnpany matches the corps might fairly claim the premier position in Canterbury in teams shooting, and had won the Associated Corps challenge shield for the third tirrie. The corps' championship had again been won by Private Batchelor, Private A. Bentley being a worthy second. The B class championship had been won by Private F. Sandlord, and the - No. 2 B class championship by Private Allard. A special .prize given by Private Wa_elin lor first man in No. class was won by Private Allard, and a prize given by Private Batohelor for fewest mißses in B class by Corporal Murray Gardner. Privates Bentley and Batchelor were nominated for the New Zealand Rifle Association's meeting, and though the latter was prevented from attending the former was now making his name as a shot. Regret was expressed at the loss by removal, from Christchurch of Sergeant J. Murphy and Privates Wakelin and Martin. The" Morris tube competitions were won as follows:—Junior shots, Private Ward (2), 64, I; Lance Corporal Kerr (scr), 47, 2 ; recruits, Private J. Murphy (5), 61,1 ; Private Pykett (scr), 57, 2. Thanks were given to Messrs E. Recce and Sons, Sergeant Wakolin (Honorary Reserve .Corps), ex-Sergeant Whitmore, and Privates Wakelin and Martin for donations of prizes. .The election of officers resulted as follows :—Finance Committee, the officers and non-commissioned officers; secretary and treasurer, Private Batcbelor; custodians of uniforms, Sergeant Jeffreys and Corporal Franklin; armourers, Sergeant Medding3 and T. Meddings ; Shooting Committee, Sergeants Jeffreys, Meddings and Ward, Corporal Gardner, Privates Batchelor, Bentley, Teague and Murphy; auditors, Colour-Sergeant Steere and Sergeant Meddings ; stores stewards, Sergeant Ward and Private Smith; librarians, Corporal Thompson and Private Allard; Range Association delegates, Captain Cresswell and Sergeants Ward and Jeffreys. t After considerable discussion it was decided to procure for all members of the Company Doots of a similar pattern, to ensure greater uniformity. A committee, consisting of the non-commissioned officers, and Privates Teague, Murphy, Hooper, Batchelor and Bentley, were appointed to mako arrangements for a social at an early date. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the officers of the Corps. Ex-Sergeant Whitmore was elected a life member. Votes qf thanks wore passed to tbe route-marching team, and to Sergeant Butcher for his work in connection with the team.
