-HAWKE'S BAY v AUCKLAND.

AUCKLAND, March 18. The cricket matoh Hawse's Bay v Auckland commenced at 11.30 o'clock to-day. The ground was soft but the wicket played well.

Hawke's Bay batted first with Cato and Lusk at the wickets. The former scored 18 and was caught by Warren at long slip. Lusk and Staite took the score to 66, when the latter was run out through smart fielding by Labatt. Gore filled the vacancy, then Lusk was clean bowled by Kallender, having made half a century. The first innings of Hawke's Bay closed for 125, the only double figures scorers being H. B. Lusk 50, C. H. Cato 18, G. Staite 13, G. Marshall 13.

The Auckland men in their first innings scored 78, to whiclf Kallender contributed 22, Warren 19 and Willis 26. Hawke's Bay in their second innings have two wickets down for .56 runs, H. B. Lusk 24 not out. The play of both teams was indifferent. The Auckland team made a poor stand against the bowling of Fannin. Play is to be resumed to-morrow morning.

A match Kaiapoi Thursday Club v the Sons of Temperance resulted in a win for the latter by 2 runs, the score being 145 (G. H. Black well 47 not out, A. Forsvth 26, W. Blackwell 26, O. Clothier 24). I_aiapoi Club 143 (Brown 31, Robilliard 20, Wilmot 15, G. Oram 20 nob out). J. Morrin and W. Blackwell for the former, and Wilmot and McDougall for the latter bowled the best.

The senior cup matches between the Midland and Sydenham teams and Lancaster Park and United Thirteens will be continued at Lancaster Park to-day, and the contest between tbe United and Park Elevens will be resumed at Hagley Park, where the junior cup match, Midland v Lancaster Park, will also be continued.

In a Thursday match, Rangiora v Cust, the former scored 131 for five wickets (Sinclair 33, Chapman 21); Cust 63 (Biunden 16)- ,
