GERMAN PIANOS.

German official trade statistics are com. piled on the curious principle of expressing all quantities by weight. Thus, in 1896 there were exported 192,080cwt of pianos, of the value of £1,104,450, which suggest-that these instruments were sold at £5 os 8d per owt. Very nearly one-half those exports were to Great Britain, and Australasia stood second on the list of the countries to which these goods were sent, Russia coming third, but a long way in the rear of Australasia. The German piano export to Australasia was 27,858cwt.
