EASTER EXCURSION TO AKAROA
TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir, —I am one of those who enjoy a short sea trip, especially with a good goal in view. The trip to Akaroa exactly fills the bill—three hours by a decent boat, giving residents of the Plains just time to fill their lungs with a good supply of sea air; whilst, as a goal to steer for, no prettier or snugger place than Akaroa could be desired by those who are not born sailors in which to recover from their little sea troubles whilst rambling up the gullies and about the hills. Having often enjoyed a holiday in this favoured spot, I would point out to the Union Company that in not laying on good
boats they leave untapped a mine which, steadily worked, would pay well. The Company, in opening uo this sanitorium and pleasure resort would confer a great boon on Canterbury, and earn the goodwill of its people. Were there a tunnel through from Little River, so lovely and delightful a spot would be frequented by thousands who have hitherto beeu debarred by the difficulty and expense of reaching this beautiful harbour. Unhappily the tunnel is in the distant future, so wo must meantime be coriJlnt with steamer. Both on my own account *nd on behalf of the public I would express a hope that the company will henceforth treat us to this breezy outing as often as circumstances will allow, commencing with Easter Monday.—Yours, &c,
