The Director in charge of the Chicago , Goldming Company's mine states in a report of the work done" at the mine daring the past three months that all outside, work has been pushed on to enable machinery to be erected as quickly as possible. Before the battery site or the route -Cpr the tramway could "be decided upon, it was necessary to complete the detailed survey of. the water* race. It having been fcuad that from a branoh creek more horse-power than was required could be supplied, a race fronf this branch was agreed upon and the work jkufc in hand. The excavation far the battery waa expected to be completed by the 19fch of * the month. The site chosen was aUrageide the tunnel in the Scottish.Chief section. I'he battery house was to be constructed to.give ample fall for working Frere Vanner'e and cyanide plant. A special grant from the Mines Department to the County Council had been made for metalling the rood as far aa the battery. A cross-cut reef, about Bft wide, on the road level 350 ft south, gave a return of 3oz 7dwt of gold to the ton, asd the drive was continued west, with the idea of cutting tho .Big Chicago reef. On the Scottish Chief section, in the main working tunnel, two gold-bearing reefs had been discovered. The main workings at the Royal Sovereign section werfei peing carried on with a good deal of success.. There were reefs and stone enough to keep an unlimited number of stamps going for very many years, and with favourable weather the battery should be ready for crushing by tho end- of May. Mr W. T. McGregor, late student of the Thames School of Mines, waa in charge of the mine.
