LYTTELTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The Lyttelton Borough Council met on Monday night. Present —Hia Worship the Mayor (Mr A. Chalmers) and Crs. Radcliffe, Cook, Lewin, W. H. Dalley, Brown, Owen, Field, Hobden. Correspondence was dealt with. The receipts reported by the Finance Committee were £134 18s 4d, and payments amounting to £286 7s 10s were recommended for payment. The overdraft was reported to be £842 10s 4d. The report was adopted. The Works Committee reported as to various claims and complaints, and their recommendations were adopted. The report of the Inspector of Nuisances was adopted. The Engineer's report as to the water supply was adopted. Cr. Hobden called attention to the defective light supplied to the town clock, and it was resolved that plumbers be employed to put the supply pipes in order, also that the matter of the contract with the Gas Company be referred to the Lighting Committee. A deputation waited on the Council with reference to the proposed swimming bath, and stated that its dimensions would be 50yds in length, 20 in width and from 8 to 3ft in depth. The total cost, including excavations, pump, pipes, engine, &c. was estimated at £607. The deputation guaranteed to to find £100 of this amount. It was' resolved that the Recreation Committee confer with the Baths Committee, and report as to a suitable site. Cr. Radcliffe called attention to the desirableness of reflooring the Colonists' Hall, but a proposal that the Foreman of Works draw out specifications and call for tenders for reflooring the hall was postponed, after some discussion.
