HASTINGS TRAINING NOTES. [BY TELEGRAPH.]
[from our special correspondent.] HASTINGS, March 14. Victoria Cross worked very early, and about daylight Golden Plover and Douglas put in medium pace work twice round what is known as the grass gallop. Aphony went away from Wiritea, who was not in a racing mood, in a once round gallop. Rhino did nice steady work. Gold Medallist had Dotterel for a companion over seven furlongs on the outside of the course proper; they ran together for four furlongs, then Gold Medallist dcew away and came home six lengths in front in linin 32"tsec. Daunt went lazily and Target freely in a six furlongs go on the course proper, aud the latter pushed in front in lmin 20sec. Te Ngaehe, Btraybird, Donovan and a number of others did strong gallops ; but the best was registered by tinCup candidates Tire, Primula, Tirant d'Eau and Woodstock, Katoomba assisting part of the way. Woodstock on the inside made the pace, Tire lying back till coming home, when he came through and, ridden out, pushed two lengths iv front of Primula, Tirant d'Eau and Woodstock, who were well together. Time, 2tnin 17£ sec, A good gallop, being considerably over a mile and a quarter. Primula carried White, light boys were on the others. Scotia galloped six furlongs on the course. Time, lmin 21sec. A thunderstorm, followed by a heavy downpour, commenced at seven o'clock, and rain is steadily falling.
