Captain Edwin telegraphed yesterday ss follows :—" Wind between north and west and south-wesb ab all places northward of Napier and New Plymouth and southward of Port Chalmers and Queensbown, and between north-east and north and west elsewhere. Barometer—Very little movement northward of Easb Cape, Taupo and Tauranga; fall everywhere else. Sea heavy on all western coasb, and on Easb Coast south of Napier; tides high on all western coast, and on East Coast south of C&stlepoiut. Strong westerly winds are probable northward of Napier and New Plymouth, and northerly gales, probably with rain, from thence southward."

Yesterday was a decidedly off day at Port, the only movement among the shipping being the sailing of the Ohau for Westport. We are advised by the Union Steamship Company that bheir s.s. Rakanoa, from Calcutta, passed Albany on 19th inst., and is due at Bluff, her first port of call In bhe colony, about 30th inst. An unprecedented week's work in frozsn meat was done in Lyttelton last week by bhe New Zealand Shipping Company, 94,194 carcases having been pub into the steamers Otorama and Banffshire. Owing bo bhe prevailing beab, most of the meat was shipped early in the morning and late at night.
