CANTERBURY TROTTING CLUB.
As intimation from the Colonial Secretary's office that a totalisator permit had been issued for this meeting was only received shortly before five o'clock on Friday evening, and as it had been reported that the meeting might not take place, the news that the permit had been granted was received with favour, more particularly by owners having horses engaged at the meeting, which commences at 12.30 p.m. The track has been somewhat hard, and the rainfall overnight may cause it to be somewhat slippery and against fast time, but the quality of the contestants in most of the races, and particularly in the short limit events, makes the meeting attractive. The following may be hardest to beat in their respective engagements: — Maiden, Bonnie McGregor; Pony Handicap, Come Again, General Luck and Sterling Lad; Ranfurly Stakes, The Baron or Design ; Progressive Handicap, Come Again or Camisea; Addington Handicap, Monte Carlo ; Electric Handicap, Sterling Lad or i Isabel; Dash Handicap, The Baron.
