Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright DEATH SENTENCE COMMUTED. Sydney, November 17. Declouts's sentence has been commuted to twelve months' imprisonment, not for life. AN UNFOUNDED CHARGE. The Rev. F. W. Isitt, during his recent visit to this colony, made serious charges to the Minister of Justice, accusing tbe senior police officer at Orange of chronic drunkenness, and that he could not be trusted in his important duties. After the fullest enquiry Mr Isitt's charges are found to be totally untrue. A MURDERED MAN IDENTIFIED. Recently an unknown man was murdered in Kent, England. His clothes bore a Sydney tailor's name. -The clothes reached here to-day, and were identified as having been made for a man named Anderson. REPAIR OF NOUMEAN CABLE. The Postmaster General, replying to a deputation from the Chamber of Commerce, agreed to use his influence to get the New Zealand Government to reconsider its decision not to grant the use of the Tutanekai to repair the Noumean cable, which broke short a while back. A SUCCESSFUL APPEAL. The full Court upheld the A.M.P. Society's appeal against the income tax assessment. CHARITIES BILL. Melbourne, November 17. In the Legislative Assembly Sir George Turner introduced the Charities Bill. He estimates that the revenue from a tax on sports and other sources will total £283,000, or £50,000 more than the present charities revenue. TASMANIAN POLITICS. Hobart, November 17. In the Legislative Assembly Mr Inglis Clark announced that he was leader of the Opposition. He ha 3 a considerable following, though some members of the party hold aloof.
