KAIAPOI.

, The ordinary meeting waa held last evening. Present—The Mayor (Mr Doubleday) and Crs. Simpson, Peurce, Bngg, Clark, Hayman and Hopkins. Leave was granted Crs. Fraser, Feldwick and Blakeley. Letters were read from the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, notifying elections. From Messrs W. Moore and A. Chalmers, offering to serve on the aforesaid Boards if re-elected. It waa decided to support their nominations. From the Rev. Father Aubrey, stating he wished to close Rangiora Catholic Cemetery to Kaiapoi burials, and asking for a portion of the public cemetery. It was decided to reply that a block had been set aside for the purpose for many years. A letter from a ratepayer complaining; of a statement made by a Councillor was read, and Councillors expressed the opinion the statements made in it were not warranted. The Mayor stated the Cattle Inspector rcpo> ted that a cow, killed by his instructions, was buried in a section in Akaroa street at a depth of sft 6in, with 3ft 6in of soil above it. He was not aware at the time it was contrary to the by-laws to bury cattle within the borough without permission. The Committee appointed to arrange for supplying the water-cart was granted an extension of time to report. The Fire Prevention Committee reported on the condition of the sumps and sewers by which the fire- engine was supplied, and the report was adopted, with instructions to clean ont some of the sumps and make an effort to get a better supply for the North road tank. Crs. Simpson, Hopkins, Pearce and the Mayor to attend to the same. The receipts were £26 3s, the debtor balance £625 16s 3d. Accounts, £19 Is 2d, were passed. Mr J. Ross complained of the Hanger impounding his borse. and it was decided to get the Ranger's explanation of the matter. The Mayor, Cr. Simpson and the Town Clerk were appointed a Committee to inspect aud report on the Ashburton reserve.
