Sldnby, November 16. Mr Pifctman, the Government geologic, has returned from a visit to the VV*esfc Australian goldfields. An exhaustive examination impressed him as to their richness and permanence. He was especially struck by the extent and richness of the telluride deposits. DEATH SENTENCE COMMUTED. Deckmts, who was convicted of attempted wife murder, and sentenced to death, has had his sentence commuted to imprisonment for life. A DISSATISFIED MAGISTRATE. M-slt.otjrnk, November 16. At a meeting of the District Court Mr Lormer, in spite of tho fact that the presiding magistrate''temporarily adjourned the Court, persisted in reading a statement with reference to his attitude towards the licensing cases. He severely criticised the Crown Law Department for what he termed its unfair and unjust treatment. He demanded a re-hearing of his case and then left the court.
