AUCKLAND, November 12. The Auckland Agricultural Association's show opened to-day. The weather was fine and the entries were in excess of last year. The best thoroughbred entry was Mr L. D. Nathan's Seaton Delaval, which was awarded first prize for draught entire. The first prize was awarded to Mr Win. Patterson for the Clydesdale Willie, imported recently from Victoria. An application for a decision in an industrial dispute to come before the Board of Conciliation was lodged with the Clerk of Awards at the Supreme Court. The application is made by the Auckland Tailoresses' Industrial Union, the other parties to the dispute being Messrs George Powley, Van Breda, Smith, Ehrman, Mrs Jordan, and Mrs Lumsden. The dispute is in reference to the log. A meeting of the Board to consider the matter is convened for this day week at the Supreme Court. I WELLINGTON, November 12.
Michael Ryan, alias Johnston, and John P. Donovan were committed for trial for burglariously entering the Clarendon boarding li.ni c. They were smartly arrested by the police a few nights ago. Mr Castendyke's funeral this morning was very largely attended. The Garrison Band was present and a detachment of the Permanent Artillery farmed the firing party. The coffin, covered with tbe German Consulate flag, was* borne on a gun carriage. The Premier and foreign Consuls were among those present. INVERCARGILL, November 12.
Mr Poynton, S.M., to-day dismissed a case against Mr Merrett, a butcher, for not giving an employee the halt-holiday. The man was employed at the slaughter yard, and counsel for the defence contended that the yard did not come under the definition of a shop. The Magistrate upheld the contention.
The Court was engaged te-day with a claim for £50 damages against Mrs Whitcombe, wife of the local Traffic Manager, for injuries sustained by Rhcda Swan, five years old. The defendant was riding a bicycle on a footpath and ran over the child, who lost three teeth and suffered injuries to her face. The defendant paid £5 into Court and stated that the accident arose through her endeavouring to avoid a collision with a horse and cart.
