This took the form of a solid silver salver, bearing a suitable inscription, obtained from the firm of Coates and Co., Christchurch, and which Mr Bush, in a very happy speech, had the pleasure of presenting to Mr Thoma3 on behalf of the Committee and remainder of their shipmates. The Christchureh Tramway Company carried no less than 20,000 passengers over their lines, which is a record number. They were carried as under : 6500 to Sumner, 8500 to the Show Grounds, and 5000 on other lines. A large number went to New Brighton, and also took part in the harbour excursions, picnics, cycle outings, *kc At night all the places of amusement were full. It is satisfactory to be able to record that no accidents, so far as is known, occurred during the holiday. Courtknay Show.—The entries for the annual show, which takes place at Kirwee next Thursday, again show an increase. The numbers are as follows:—Sheep I*lß, cattle 20, draught horses 32, thoroughbreds and hackneys 102, pigs 15, poultry 28, sheep dogs 13, farm produce 70, implements, <kc., 27. The entries in the fnt sheep and lamb classes are more than double of any previous occasion, and will form a strong feature of the sheep entry. In draught horses about the same number of animals will be present, the difference between this arid last year's figures are accounted for by the same animals being entered for special prizes last year. Most of the large entry of thoroughbreds and hackneys will appear either in saddle or harness, and will no doubt be the finest collection ever seen at a show in New Zealand (Metropolitan included), ladies' hacks being conspicuous. In farm produce there is a considerable falling off, and in grain and seeds, whilst there is a considerable increase in the more attractive exhibits, particularly of dairy produce.
