WAIMAKARIRI RIVER BOARD.
The South Waimakariri River Board raefc on Monday. Present—Messrs R. W. England (chairman), C. F. Mocey, J. C. Atkinson, G. F. Carpenter, R. M. Taylor, J. Glanville and H. W. Peryman. The Overseer reported on the damage done by the floods at No. 1 embankment and at Mason's Flat, recommending the construction of an embankment faced with concrete at a cost of £300. Repairs werealsonecessaxy at the Seven Mile Peg, and a new wing at Stephenson'sembankmentwas recommended, to cost £150. The clause was approved. It was decided to complete the new embankment at Mason's Flat, subject to favourable arrangemente. The tender of Mr T. N. Horaley for one hundred casks of cement was accepted. It was resolved to procure twenty-one sacks of Millburn cement with a view to testing its quality at the upper works. The Secretary was instructed to reply to a letter from Mr M. Burke, asking the Board to protect him from the damage done to his land by the river, that the request could not be complied with. Accounts amounting to £42117s 4d were passed for payment.
