THE POLICE FORCE.
It is satisfactory to note that the police force in Chrietchurch has been temporarily strengthened to a considerable extent during carnival week. Detectives McGrath, Livingstone and Cox of Dunedin, Timaru and Wellington respectively, who have been stationed here for the time being along with Detective Benjamin and two acting detectives, will make the force adequate in their particular department. The ordinary constabulary force has been reinforced *by Constables Moore (Aehbnrlon), Christie (Oamarn), Miller (Timaru), Hastie (Lyttelton), Connal (Kaiapoi) and Walton (Lincoln), the last two being mounted men. Constable Cassell, of Wanganui, has been stationed here permanently. It is a curious coincidence that the thres second class detectives in the colony are at present in Christchurch.
