' The ordinary meeting was held on Monday. ' Present—Messrs Boagt Chairman), Nun week, ' Becketfc, Deans and Jackson. Correspondence was read from the Commissioner of ' Crown Lands, returning notice for rates levied on unoccupied sections of the Wharenui and Oborakau settlements, and stating that the Crown is not liable for rates. Referred to the Collector. From the Chief Surveyor, stating that a I voucher for a progress payment on formation of Wharenui Hamlet road had been forwarded to Wellington. From the Avon Road Board, asking it the Board j will contribute towards the cost of clearing I the Kapatonc creek. Deferred for consideraj tion. From Mr Edkins, complaining of the , foul state of the I'apauui drain through ! reserve 203, and enclosing a letter for the ; Drainage Board on the subject. It was I resolved to forward the letter to the i Drainage Board, the drain being under their ! control. From Messrs Secretin and Allen, I again calling attention to the escape of water from the Wairarapa river into the old Carl ton Mill race. It was resolved to reply that the Wairarapa, being under the control of the Drainage Board, this Board cannot see its way to interfere, and must adhere to its former resolution. The Sub-Committee's report on the necessity for a footpath on Wright's road, Hill Morton, was considered, and it was resolved to reply, that owinjr to the difficulties m drainage, and the opposition of some of the I owners of property adjoining ,the road, the I Board cannot see its way to comply with the request of the petitioners unless all tho ratepayers fronting the road agree to the formation of the path. Several complaints having been made respecting the nuisance caused by stray and herded cattle on tho roads, it waa resolved to inform tho ranger that more attention must be given to his duties. The Surveyor's report was approved. Mr Jackson and the Clerk were authorised to purchase whole blackbirds at la per dozen, and small birds' heads at 3d per dozen. The rate collector's report was adopted. After passing accounts the Board adjourned. i
