MR S. STONE.

I ! On Monday .Mr Samuel Stone, a.farmerin the Woodend district for upwards of thirtysix years, died at his son's residence, Wilson's siding, Ohoka. Mr Stone hailed from Birmingham, and landed in Nelson in j 1844, being oue of those who, after planting 1 potatoes, were compelled, through shortness !of provisions, to dig them np again. He was also in the district at the time of the Wairau massacre. He leaves a grown up family to lament his decease, which took , place at the advanced age of eighty seven.
