KAIAPOI BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The fortnightly meeting of this Council was held on Tuesday last. Present —All the members except Cr. Simpson, to whom leave of absence was granted. Letters were read from Mr R. Mooro, M.H.R., forwarding the Municipal Franchise Enlargement and Hawkers Bills. It was decided to request Mr Moore to oppose the former, and the Hawkers Bill was referred to a Committee for report. The Finance Committee reported on an application from Mr Knight, for a new name ro be placed on the valuation list, that the list could not be amended as requested. The receipts were £90 15s and the present overdraft was £542 2s lOd. Accounts amounting to £18 17s 5d were passed for payment. A tender waa received from Mr R." Thompson for carting —For dray and horse, 4s ; dray, horse, and man, 8s ; horse and man for water cart, 8s; two horses, dray, and man, 10s 6d ; two horses, scoop or plough, 10s 6d per day of eight hours. It was agreed that new wheels be obtained for the foreman's push cart. Cr. Hayman gave notice that the water-cart be emploj _d on the streets, and that the clerk present an estimate of the cost at next meeting. Cr. Fraser proposed that the motion should be made and discussed forthwith. The Mayor pointed out that it was advisable to give notice, since the expenses for the water-cart had been struck out. of the year's estimates. Cr. Clark gave notice to move that a list be furnished of all ratepayers who would benefitby the watering of the streets.
