FREEZING WORKS AND EIGHT HOURS. A deputation consisting of employees of the two local meat preserving and freezing works was introduced to the Premier last night by Mr Wilson, M.H.R., and asked that employees in meat freezing works should be exempted from the provisions of the Eight Hours Bill, as nnless such workers were permitted to work overtime in the busy season they would not be able to earn sufficient to keep them in the slack time. In reply "the Premier said the Bill was not intended to injure tbe working classes, but unfortunately the eight hours principle was not universally recognised, and in order to prevent a reversion to the old order of things, tbe Government had determined to place the principle on the i Statute Book. He thought that the ex- j emption asked for by the deputation might be made. DIRECT FROM THE MANUFACTURERS. m AU the latest fashions in hard, soft, and framed hats. J. H.
