GERALDINE COUNTY COUNCIL.

The Gerald ine County Council was attended by Messrs J. Talbot Mackay, Quinn, Denniatoun, Shiers and Kelman. The Chairman's action in proseen ting a ratepayer for diverting a stream of water from the main south race without permission was approved of. The engineers' report stated that the Kakaku bridge was open for traffic. The Orari protective works should be completed in two or three weeks' time, and the Orari bridge, on the Main South road, was being proceeded with satisfactorily. They doubted the stability of the protective works under the control of the Board of Conservators. Levels bad been taken with respect to the proposal to carry the water-race to the Geraldine downs. The scheme was found to be practicable, but too costly. It was resolved to draw the attention of the Orari Board of Conservators to the engineers' report upon their works, and to have levels taken, so as to get an independent opinion as to whether the Council's new protective works are a menace to the River Board's interests. Messrs Clinch and Lloyd's tender, £280, wa3 accepted for erecting new oGlces at Geraldine, and Mr J. Cartwright's tender, £11, for raising gorse stops at Opihi protective works. Accounts amounting to £407 11s were passed.
