AN IMPORTANT CASE.

(PRKSS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) iNVERCARGIIiL, AtlgUßt 28. An important case, affecting shipping interests, was before the Stipendiary Magistrate, Mr P ( oynton. The case is W. S. Waterston v Westport Coal Company, a claim for £40, demurrage on the brigantine Sarah and Mary. Several steamers that arrived at a later date were given preference in loading. The defence claimed that this was the custom of the port. The decision was reserved, but whichever way it goes it is likely to be taken to a higher Court.
