THE KENNEL.

The Wellington Kennel Club want Mr P. Biggs to judge Collins at their next show. Mr G. M'cEwen has been appointed hon. secretary of the New Zealand Collie Club which ie to be registered under the Un« classified Societies' Registration Act. The young Collie dog Monkland Billy, by the ex-New Zealander First Shot from Bookham Lass, has been sold by Messrs Campbell and Miller, of Sydney, to a Briebane fancier.

The closing of the entries for the N.S.W. Kennel Club Show was postponed until the 14inst, to allow of New Zealand entries being received. In my notes of June 9th last I made reference to the release from quarantine of the two Dachshunds, Warrior and Trilby, brought out from England by Dr. Thomas of Timaru. lam very sorry to learn thatiithe bitch died at Timara on Saturday whilst whelping. The doctor writes mc :—After being extremely well looked after on the Quarantine Island, she came off in splendid health and remained so until she gave birth to a living pup on the day she was expected to. She then remained in strong labour for twenty hours without any further result, in spite of judicious administration ergot.. Then I gave her ether and removed with instruments a very fine puppy which had become jammed at the brim of the pelvis. Aβ no pup presented after the removal of this one I had tb'leave the rest to nature. But the poor bitch got weaker and weaker, in spite of every attention, and died about tea hoars after the operation for removal of the pup, which did not injure her in any way. _ After death I found three more pops inside her, two of which had been dead I think for a few days. She was a -splendid little bitch, and I am very sorry to lose her. I hope to be able to rear the one living pup by hand. Referring to the Victorian Poultry and Kennel Club's show, the Australasian says :—" The sensation of the show was the defeat of Mr BorsdorfPs Ormakirk Palmbearer by Mrs W. J. Bunting's Ormsby Sultan, but it may be added that the former was distinctly out of coat, which, no donbt, accounted for hie position on this occasion. Some very promising puppies were shown, and there is every indication that the interest taken in Colliea is likely to be maintained." I have no space at command for further reference this week to the show.

The following is the prize list of the dogs exhibited at the Tapanui Poultry and Dog Society's Show, held last week:—Greyhounds— W. Quin, 1; C. Atkin, 2; J. Duncan, 3; three entries.
