FINANCIAL OPERATIONS IN THE COLONIES.
The Investors , Monthly Manual of June 30th summarises the results of the financial operations in London for the first half of the current year. After referring to the Western Australian, South Australian, and Queensland 3 per cent, loans, which aggregated about £4,500,000, the Manual refers to mining flotations, stating that mining company promoters have been decidedly quiescent, the total raised amounting to less than £4,000,000 in the aggregate. " Westralia," remarks our contemporary, " has been almost out of the market, the public having absorbed all they want until the goldfields have supplied more evidence of what they can do in the way of regular yield." Capital for South African deeplevel mining has been supplied only as it was absolutely needed. With regard to attempts to float British Columbian goldmining companies, the market has preserved a cautious attitude, the public demanding evidence before subscribing. Generally, it n»ay be remarked, they subscribe first, and inquire afterwards. Their South African and Western Australian experiences appear, however, to have exercised a salutary influence, at least temporarily.
