Later despatches from the Indian frontier state that 100 Swatis were killed in the encounter with the British force, and the field artillery was demoralised. The mobilisation of the Indian Army Is working admirably. Khaibar, Kohat and Kuram, on the frontier, are threatened by the rebel tribesmen. August 20. Peshawar reports that the outlook on the Afghan frontier is less disquieting. The tribesmen are daunted by the rapid concentration of the troops. Twelve thousand have already been concentrated in the valley of the Swat river, 7500 at Tochi, 5500 at Rawal Pindi, and 12,000 at Kobat and Peshawar. The religious leaders of the Swatis have submitted. Constantinople, August 19. The Sultan has disclaimed joining the Ameer in fomenting an insurrection among the followers of Islam on the Afghanistan frontier.
