SELWYN COUNCIL.

The Selwyn County Council met yesterday. Present — Messrs R. Westenra (Chairman), J. G. Murray, W. Dunlop, W. Boag, G. Rutherford, J. Gough, and J. Rennie.

In answer to a request from the Record Reign Celebration Committee it was decided to take part in the procession on Celebration Day. . . /

The Springs Road Board wrote as to the maintenance of the Halswell-bridgee, and it was decided to pay the account, and recover from the other bodies their shares.

A report was read from Mr Wilson suggesting trees suitable for plantation purposes. .

A letter from Mr.W. Watson concerning a road across a plantation reserve of the Council was referred to Mr Wilson to report. Messre Sheet and Sowdon wrote as to the re-leaeing of certain reserves, which it was decided should be offered by tender. A letter from Messrs Duncan and Cotterill as to the exchange of certain land was referred to the Sub-Committee.

Four tenders were received for the clearing of the River Halawell. That of Messrs McLenaghin and Behrins, for £142, was accepted for No. 1 section, and of E. Taivin, £74, for No. 2.

The Christchurcb Tramway Company wrote in respect to an extension of the tramway along Colombo street to the foot of the hills, and it was decided to confer with the Road Boards interested.

It was decided to recommend the appointment of Mr O'Shaughuessy to the vacanoy on the Kowai Domain Board, caused by the resignation of Mr Ward Robioeon.

Accounts amounting to £776 14e 9d were passed for payment. ... Notices of motion were given for- the appointment of a dog ranger, and the payment of £15 to the Lake Ellesraero Domain Board for plantation purposes. After dealing with water race and plantation matters the meeting adjourned.

At noon a special meeting of the Council was held, at which the annual accounts as certified , to by the Auditor-General were passed and signed.
