AMURI COUNTY COUNCIL.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Amuri County Council-was hqld at Culverden on Saturday, May Ist, 1897. Present— Messrs D. Rutherford (Chairman), J. H. Davison, W. Acton-Adams,' W. Thomson, D. D. Macfarlane, A. Maofarlane and E. Jones.
The Chairman's report stated that since last meeting the following correspondence had been received :—From" the Department of Lands and Surveys, Wellington, stating that the Government hud granted this Council the sum of £500 for , improving the road from Culverden to tlieHanmer on terms and conditions set forth in an agreement attached.
From the North Canterbury..Charitable Aid and Hospital Boards, informing the Council of the amounb of contribution due for the maintenance of Hospitals and Charitable institutions by this county for the year ending 31st March; 1898. From Mr Jas. Mnllano, surfaceman on the WaiauKaikoura road, asking for an increase of wages. > The labour gang hod been employed during the -month in putting in protective works in the Waian river ; in forming a portion of ■' road between Balmoral Railway Station and homestead, and in picking but Large stones |on the Waiau-Kaikoura road, through, the Waodle bush, and filling in holes with fehingle,!'
The receipts for the month were :—Dog tax £12 ,10s,; publican's conditional licenses for Hurunui Races and Waikari Dog Trial (Pain) £1 be, and contribution towarde maintenance of walerrace £10 lla Bd.
The credit balance of the general account is £442 6s, of the water-race maintenance account £16 9s 3d, and of the water-race interest acconnt £69,19s 9d. It was decided to accept the Government grant for improving the Culverden-Hanmer Plains road. The Overseer was instructed to prepare specifications for a portion of the work, tenders to be sent in Tby next meeting; and the Clerk was instructed to ask Mr W. O. Rutherford to allow the Council to make a deviation of the road at Hill's gates, near the Upper Waiau ferry. Mr Alfred.Moore waited on the Council in reference to opening up certain roads in Rotherham, and the Clerk was instructed to give notice to Mr Jas. Castles to remove his fence, and also.to Mr R. Williamson to remove hie houae off Davison road ftt Rotherham.
The Clerk was also instructed to writo to Mr Whatman, Returning Officer for the Ashley electorate, asking him to forward all papers, printed forms, &c., prepared for use at the election of a Licensing Committee for Aehley district. After passing accounts the Council adjourned.
